TWENTY TWENTY TWO
So, it’s 2022 already and as strange a year as 2021 was, it was also incredibly positive for us. It’s absolutely remarkable that after the challenges the industry has faced over the past 22 months, we had our most successful year on record in 2021. It’s a year that saw us take on 3 fantastic new members of staff, collaborate with Black Cloak, Brick and Cloudwater and take our beer to a level where it’s the best it’s ever been. We’re planning on making 2022 even more successful and we’ve got plenty in store to get excited about!
During 2021 it became glaringly obvious we needed to make some changes at the brewery if we wanted to be able to deal with the summer rush and also look to grow. Production capacity was the first challenge. At times last year, we were selling beer faster than we could brew it, so it became clear we needed more fermentation capacity. To solve this challenge we’re bringing in 3 new fermentation vessels and increasing the fermentation capacity from 19200 litres to 27200 litres, an increase of over 40%. This means we’ll be able to keep our core beers in stock all the time and even in the busy periods over the summer we’ll be able to continue brewing plenty of Special Releases.
This brings us to our packaging our beer. We are currently running a Wild Goose Gosling canning line which is a great little machine but it isn’t designed to package the volume of cans we do each week. It’s a single head filler and currently takes a full day to package a single beer into cans (approx. 2000-3000 cans). I’m certainly not complaining, it’s been a lifesaver and it’s packaged 160,000 cans in 15 months! It just holds up the rest of our production when we have to leave a beer in tank for an extra couple of days because there are beers ahead of it in the queue to be packaged. As a result we’re upgrading to a 5-head Microcan canning line, which is arriving by the end of January. We’ll then be able to package multiple beers in one day and we’ll be so much more efficient. So expect plenty of special releases come April!
But where’s all this new stuff going to go?! Well, the brewery is currently a construction site with new drainage, special resin flooring and some equipment moves underway. We’re going to be pretty crammed in at Unit 4 Cae Bach and that means we can’t have the shop in the main unit (and definitely no chance of an onsite taproom now!). Fear not though shoppers, we’re converting a store room into a proper, dedicated brewery shop space. It’ll even have a door, fancy or what! This won’t be ready immediately when the shop reopens but we hope to have it operational as soon as possible.
It’s going to be a really exciting 2022, with some returning favourites, brand new beers, one off beers, collaborations and generally – more beer! If you’ve got a pub, bar, shop, hotel, gig venue or anywhere that sells beer where you’d like to see our beer then let us know and we’ll do what we can. Even better, tell them how good our beer is and that it’d make you go in there even more. Can’t wait to get cracking on the new kit, but in the meantime we have a new collab coming out with Rivington Brewing Co next week. We’ve got a couple of launch events planned for that so keep an eye on social media for those.
Iechyd da!
