Today is a momentous occasion that sees us brew our 500th Gyle (batch) of beer at Wild Horse. We’ve invited our good friends from Blackjack Brewing Co in Manchester down to help us mark the occasion with a collaboration brew. Exciting!
The inaugural batch of Wild Horse beer was brewed on 31st March 2015 on a tiny 80 litre brew kit. That first beer was a one-off American Brown Ale called Fifty-Five brewed for a local event. Since that first brew we’ve produced approximately 1.5 million pints of wort (unfermented beer)!
Dave continued to brew on that 80-litre kit until April 2016 and kept himself very busy indeed with 88 brews, 77 being double (160L) brews (a double brew is 2 single brews into one double sized fermenter – we count double brews as 1 Gyle).
Our 16 Hectolitre (1600 litres) kit was installed in April 2016 and since then we’ve completed 244 single (16HL) brews and 149 double (32HL) brews. Chuck in some test & pilot brews and we’re at that magic 500.
Keep an eye out in a few weeks’ time for the release of today’s collab brew. Here’s to the next 500 Gyles!
